Jon counted heads and thought of a plan.

Before entering Rex’s space, he counted how many people were present and estimated at least one hundred guests, which was not that many but was still enough. As of now, Jon was staring down at seven boys in particular. One of them was the same boy who Jon beat not too long ago. They stomped toward Jon and Addison, who stayed tight while Kya stood behind them.

“I see you haven’t stopped paying dogs to do your dirty work?” Addison snapped at Rex.

“Oh, never underestimate a good dog,” said Rex. “Besides, these boys you’re looking at now got to come to a free party. The least they can do is repay the owner with a little no-holds-barred action boom, boom, boom. Gentlemen,” Rex said this as he began to fall back into his chair. Jon listened to his chair squeak while these teens crept in closer. “Don’t let these guys get to the door.”

Jon knew then that the encounter was not only on, it would be messy and brutal.

The teens were like the hooligans from eighties films, all looking for trouble.

“Back off, boys. You don’t want to do this.” Jon was calm and relaxed.

This was nothing more than a simple altercation. Jon had faced and endured many of these types of encounters before. Always, he knew exactly what to do. Here, it was different. The people he was staring at were underage. They were not like The Conquistador’s customers. They were kids, and yes, Jon did just throw some kids a beating, but that was different. They attacked him and then there were only a handful. Now, that number was higher. Jon wasn’t alone, however. Addison stood with Jon like he was his partner. Kya was too, but she was also a target in this forthcoming assault, the same as Jon and Addison. Jon questioned what Kya’s skills would be like in this kind of situation. He honestly didn’t know, and when Jon glanced at Addison, he pressed his fingers hard into his palm.

“Addison.” More teens joined the enclosing circle. “What should we do?” asked Jon.

“Exactly what we always do whenever we find ourselves backed into a corner to which there’s no way out,” said Addison. “We fight.”

“Against them?” asked Jon. “It’s gonna be messy.”

“Yeah, well,” replied Addison. “We could use the practice.”

Jon’s sigh turned to a chuckle before taking a step back. Ready.

“Should you go first, or should I?” asked Jon.

“Let’s see who makes the first move, shall we?”

“All right,” said Jon. “Let’s do this.”
